Mary Musgrove From Persuasion Essay Example For Students
Mary Musgrove From Persuasion Essay In Persuasion, Jane Austen presents her dislike of the English gentry by pointing out the flaws of her characters, which are representative of the class. Mary Musgrove, daughter of Sir Walter, sister of Anne, and wife of Charles personifies these flaws, and is thus the object of Austen s contempt. Through tone, comparison with Anne, syntax, and irony, Austen portrays Mary as a self-absorbed, uneducated, mean, self-pitying person. Austen s biting tone towards Mary and Mary s own words reveal her self-obsessed nature. Austen first presents this trait in, While well, and happy, and properly attended to, she had great good humour and excellent spirits (p. 33); when Mary is not the center of attention she becomes depressed. This is just how Anne encounters her, unwell and out of spirits (p. 33) because her husband is out hunting, and her friends have not dropped by to visit; there is no one there to make her the center of attention. Like Elizabeth and father, Mary had a considerable share of the Elliot self-importance (p. 33). Here, Austen uses a mocking tone with Mary and her family members. She has neglected her children, which should be the foremost concern of a good wife during this period. She only attends to them when it pleases her, and as long as could bear their noise (p. 34). Austen does not approve of this behavior, which is implied by her scathing tone. Mary then immediately shifts the conversation back to herself by commenting on how unwell she is rather than talk about her children with Anne. Irony of situation further accents her self-obsessed nature. Mary complains that never put themselves out of their way (p. 4), but when Anne first encounters her, Mary is lying on the faded sofa (p. 33). Not only does Mary not take any responsibility and perform her duties, she criticizes Anne by saying, what can you possibly have to do? (p. 34). Here, Austen has Mary project her own lack of work on her smarter, better sister a very unflattering thing to do. By italicizing you, Austen also shows Mary s snobbish tone. In fact, Anne has been doing a great many things (p. 34), as opposed to Mary, who has just feeling sorry for herself. By setting up a running parallel between Mary and Anne, Austen brings out more negative aspects of Mary s character. Mary had not Anne s understanding or temper (p. 33). Here, Austen makes a direct comparison between Mary and Anne, portraying Anne as the better of the two. This shows that Mary is neither compassionate nor cheerful. was inferior to both sisters, and had, even in her bloom, only reached the dignity of being a fine girl (p. 33). This direct assault on Mary s looks would be especially hurtful to Mary because she is obsessed with appearances. Anne s selflessness becomes apparent when a little farther perseverance in patience, and forced cheerfulness on Anne s side (p. 35) causes Mary to be well again. This is in sharp contrast to Mary s self-centered nature. Syntax also reveals Anne as the smarter of the two. While Anne uses long, complex and compound sentences, Mary uses short, simple sentences like, It is early (p. 34) and Oh! yes, I went (p. 35). This subtle gibe at Mary reveals a great deal about her command of the English language and ability her to express herself. Austen brings out Mary s self-pity by having Mary complain about her situation and then downplay its importance. Mary overstates her condition in order to evoke sympathy, as is seen in So you came her at last! .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c , .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .postImageUrl , .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c , .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:hover , .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:visited , .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:active { border:0!important; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:active , .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3d7ee9b22e8b1a0eb39c527110434b1c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Enemy A Seperate Peace EssayI began to think I should never see you. I am so ill I can hardly speak. (p. 33). She had told Anne that she was doing very well in a letter, thus by acting unwell she tries to make Anne feel bad for not having come sooner. Her statement is also ironic and a lie because Mary winds up speaking so much that she affords Anne little chance to do so herself. Throughout the conversation between the sisters, Mary keeps bringing up the topic of her condition. She does this in order to evoke more pity. This is overacting on her part because she eventually forgets that she is sick, and even proposes that the two go on a walk. Her desire to evoke pity arises out of her conceited nature and a poor self-image. Mary, being very concerned with social class, feels like less of a person for having married Charles Musgrove a commoner. She needs the compassion of others to reassure her that she is still loved, even though she is no longer as important. In Persuasion, Austen presents Mary as self-obsessed, worse than Anne, stupid, and self-pitying. She does this through her use of tone, irony, syntax, juxtaposition, and character development. From her depiction of Mary, Austen makes her dislike of the English gentry obvious.

Growth in the sales directly adds to the more production of Bronze Snake shop. Legal factor- To increase scale of production, there should be good global relations and this can happen only when there are good government facilities in relation to this retail market. There must be new plans and policies for the betterment of the industry in order to maintain certain legal standards of the business. Business standards encourage for more marketing, consumers and proper legal rules that helps to maintain business reputation (Hollensen, 2015). There must be proper tax structure for Bronze Snake shop in order to maintain business stability. Environmental factor- Environmental factor is one of the important factors in the marketing industry. Impact of weather condition will vary the demand for the customers of Bronze Snake shop business. Good weather will create more demand for global marketing while bad weather will led to decline in the demand factor. If there are weather imbalances, then there will be problem in economic activity of this industry as no demand will lead to low sales and production will decline. Due to natural calamities also, there can be low growth in the sales of this business. Product lifecycle analysis Product life cycle According to the theory of product life cycle, there are four stages of a product or the organization as a whole (Stark, 2015). These four stages are introduction, growth, maturity and decline. The first stage is the introduction stage. In this stage, products are being introduced in the market. In the case of the Bronze Snake shop, new retail goods such as man or woman wear in new designs. However, in this stage, the organizations should initiate extensive promotional and marketing activities to increase the customer awareness in the market (Zhurkina, Ukhanova Nikishin, 2015). This is due to the reason that, the more will be the customer awareness around the newly introduced product, the more will be the interest of the customers to have the access. Thus, the sales will be increased. One advantage that can be leveraged by this organization is the price skimming (Spann, Fischer Tellis, 2014). It will help them in charging high introductory prices at the initial stage. The more will be the initial buzz around the product, the more effective will be the price skimming strategies. The next step will be the growth stage. In this stage, the market share of the particular product is increasing with the increase in the market share and demand. In the case of bronze snake shop, the market for their newly introduced product is increasing in this stage. Thus, the key responsibility for them in this stage is to increase the market area of the product by penetrating in new markets (Baker, 2014). It will help to increase the market share of the product. In addition, the other aspects such as the retail counters should be increased to meet the growing demand of the customers. The more effective and timely will be the delivery, the more will be the retention of the customers (Khan, 2012). The promotional activities should be maintained as in the introduction stage and may be enhanced to reach out to the larger audience. Pricing strategy should be maintained according to the trend of demand in the market. If the demand is growing even in the case of the price skimming, the n it should be maintained, otherwise, the price could be slightly reduced to target the larger number of customers. The next step is the maturity stage. In this stage, the demand and the market share of the product is all time high and the market is nearly saturated with no more chance of increase in the market share. However, in the case of the bronze snake shop, there are certain they should initiate strategies in order to extend the life cycle of the product (Zhang et al., 2015). The women and mens wear should be slightly tweaked in order to change the appeal to the customers. Moreover, competitors analysis should be done in this stage to determine the competitive advantages of the substitute products in the market. It will help to identify the features of the similar items, which can be modified in their products by bronze snake shop. Pricing strategy should be implemented according to the demand in the market. The price skimming policy should be junked and it should be lowered to attract more number of customers. Various discounts and rebates should be offered to the customers in order to mot ivate them in buying their products. In this stage, the promotional activities should not be about increasing the customer awareness but featuring the distinctive features, which will enable the customers to compare with the substitute products (McAuley, Pandey Leskovec, 2015). Another strategy that may be initiated by them is to enter in a new market. This is due to the reason that, the existing market is already saturated and there no chance of extending market share. Thus, entering in the new market will help them to start a new life cycle for their existing products (Cruesen Lejour, 2013). Eventually it will extend the life cycle of the product to a large extent. The last stage is the decline stage, which state that the life cycle of the product is coming to an end. Thus, in this case, there is less possibilities of extending the life cycle to a large extent. However, initiation of a few strategies will help to have some small extension. One of the key strategies that can be implemented is modifying the existing product. In the case of the Bronze snake shop, they can modify their product portfolio according to the current trend in the market. It will have some distinctive aspects for the product in the market. The price should be kept as low as possible to attract more customers in the last stage. Promotional activities should also be kept low due to the fact that it will not garner any more profit for the organization. The last step should be the discontinuation of the product to make way for a new product. BCG matrix BCG matrix states the status of the products in terms of the case usage and cash generation. Cash generation refers to the market share the particular products holds and cash usage refers to the growth rate of the product in the market with having more investment in various activities such as promotional activities (Mathews et al., 2016). In this matrix, the first aspect is the star, which refers to the product, which is having high market share as well as high growth rate in the market. For Bronze snake shop, the women cloth line falls in this category. This is due to the reason that, they invest the maximum amount in promoting this product line and new products under this product line are being introduced more often. Moreover, the key revenue-generating product is the women wear for them. The next aspect is the question mark. It represents the low market share with having high market growth rate. These products are in the growth stage. In the case of Bronze snake shop, women apparels and accessories are in the growth stage with having lower market share. The promotional activities are being done most for this product line. The next aspect in this matrix is cash cows. This represents products having lower growth rate but higher market share. Products in the matured stage stay here. In the case of bronze snake shop, men cloth line falls in this category. This is due to the fact that, they have introduced mens wear first in their business and with the time being, it became the market leader. However, the market for this category became saturated for them and thus, the growth rate is slowing down. The last aspect is the dogs that refer to the low market share and low growth rate. These products are in the decline stage with lowering market share and market growth rate (Gandhi, Lu Shi, 2013). In the case of Bronze snake shop, the niche brand launched by them to cater to the high-end male customers is on the declining stage. The target market for it was small and the product was not well accepted by the customers. Ansoff matrix Ansoff matrix states two major aspects of market and the products. Each one has been classified in new and existing ones. It helps the organizations in determining their strategy according to the status of their market and offerings. According to this matrix, there are four way to expand the market. The first aspect is the market penetration. It refers to the penetration of the existing market with the existing product. In the case of the Bronze snake shop, they can introduce variants in different price level to further penetrate in the existing market. The next step is the product development (Gmelin Seuring, 2014). Bronze snake shop can introduce a new product line to fill the identified gap in the existing market. It will help to expand the existing market with new products. The next step is the market development. Bronze snake shop can foray in a new market with their existing products. It will let them to not invest in developing new products. Moreover, the life cycle can be extended with the help of market development. The last step is the diversification. Under this step, Bronze snake shop can diversify their business line to venture in different product category. They can venture in footwear along with cloth line. This will help them to target new market with new products. Customer analysis Customer analysis of Bronze Snake shop depends on the marketing business. Marketing business is dependant totally on customers need and preferences. It includes various attributes of customers like customers nature, sentiments, and requirement (Hult Ketchen, 2017). They have the equal influential role just like the supplier in the profit of the organization or business industry. It is the critical aspect to the marketing strategy. Customer analysis is one of the most important aspects of Bronze Snake shop (Hsu et al., 2016). Therefore, if the business owner fails to analyze their customers, they will not be able to run their business with smooth and stability. To analyze customers Bronze Snake shop requires three features to consider and they are firstly, to identify the target customers, then to understand their needs or requirements, and lastly, to show how the new arrivals in cloths and accessories matches the customer needs. There must be individual face-to-face proper negotiations between the seller and the buyer (Kim, Shin, Min, 2016). The seller should collect adequate information regarding buyers preferences in order to sell the exact product with all the requirements. Regardless of the business type, customer analysis depends on demographic details, customer interest, location, communication, demographic details includes name, age , gender and job designation (Serrat, 2017). Customer interest involves customer satisfaction level after the purchase of the product and it involves the good communication with the customers. For customer analysis, one can collect information from the existing customers about the business and their services (McDonald Wilson 2016). It also influences the customers largely in the market. GENOCIDIO Essays - DraftQuarzo, DraftJAYKO, Helen Fein
Christmas Tree or Floral Preservative Recipe
Christmas Tree or Floral Preservative Recipe Christmas tree preservatives (aka Christmas tree food) and cut flower preservatives contain the same ingredients: a food source for the plant, an acidifier (making hard water more acidic which helps the plant take in water and food), and a disinfectant to prevent mold, fungi, and algae from growing. This is an easy process that takes mere minutes. Christmas Tree Preservative Ingredients 1 gallon water2 cups light corn syrup4 teaspoons chlorine bleach4 teaspoons lemon juice or vinegar (optional) How To Make Christmas Tree Food Mix the ingredients together and keep the solution in the base for the Christmas tree or vase for cut flowers. Both trees and flowers will last longer in cooler areas away from direct sunlight.Make sure the tree or flower always has water. Regularly refill the vase or the base where the tree sits. In addition, you may wish to spritz the tree or flowers periodically with water from a spray bottle. You can store the solution for four to fiveà days at room temperature in a closed container, or two weeks refrigerated. Tips Do not drink! If you plan on making enough tree or cut flower preservative to store, label your container and keep it out of reach of children and pets.Bleach and vinegar produce toxic vapors when mixed. If you add vinegar or lemon juice, add it to the water rather than mix it directly with the bleach. Its okay to use bleach without the lemon juice or vinegar if this worries you.If you dont have corn syrup, you can substitute 4 teaspoons of sugar, dissolved in the water. Some people add a penny to a sugar solution so that the copper can act as a fungicide and acidifier.Another common option is to substitute a can of acidic soft drink, like Sprite or 7-Up, instead of the corn syrup and lemon juice. Just add a can of (non-diet) soft drink to a gallon of water, with a splash of bleach. For flowers, youll probably want to cut the recipe to 1 quart water, 1/2 c. corn syrup, 1 tsp. bleach, 1 tsp. lemon juice.

MEDIATION between Saudi Arabia and The U.S Thesis
MEDIATION between Saudi Arabia and The U.S - Thesis Example With a shift in public policies, increasing numbers of corporates and legal firms are using alternative dispute resolution or ADR processes for conflict resolution. This paper explores mediation, which is a type ofà alternative dispute resolutionà process, where a third member or party, known as the mediator, helps the disputing parties toà reach a settlement. It will also study the mediation processes followed in the US and Saudi Arabia, while also taking into consideration the mediation methods not adopted by these two countries. Alternative dispute resolution or ADR (also referred to external dispute resolutionà in countries, as Australia)1 is a process other than litigation or adjudication in court, in which there is the presence of a neutral third party who helps to resolve conflicts or disputes.2 The process includesà conflict resolutionà procedures and mechanisms, which allows the conflicting parties to reach an agreement that would not result in litigation. ADR is actually an umbrella term for different ways in which the conflicting parties can work out a resolution, with or even without the presence and assistance of a third party. Despite a general perspective that ADR processes are capable of elevating the outcome quality and the degree of justice achieved in a conflict situation, ADR has faced a great deal of resistance in the past. As experts claimed, ââ¬Å"for decades different forms of dispute resolution (ADR) have been proposed, developed, critiqued, modified, renamed, redefined and slow ly brought within the usually suspicious, and sometimes hostile, edifice of state-based normative ordering. Some see this asâ⬠¦democratic storming of the Kafkaesque citadel of the lawâ⬠¦[While] others see it as a dangerous dilution or even undermining of justice.â⬠3 Despite the initial resistance, ADR has currently gained global popularity and acceptance amongst the common people and those in theà law

Design consideration - Bryant Park ( Design for the crowd) Research Paper
Design consideration - Bryant Park ( Design for the crowd) - Research Paper Example Today it is one of the largest occupied urban parks in the world. The development of Bryant Park is traced back from 1970s. In the early 70s, the park had turned out to be a haven for drug dealers who transacted their business confidently. The prostitutes, idlers and the homeless also had taken their share in the park. The park was by then considered a ââ¬Ëno-go zone areaââ¬â¢ by normal citizens. Sparked iron fence surrounded the park while the dense shrubbery blocked the view from outside, making the inside hazardous. Whyte suggested some ideas that have led to the development of the park to make it friendlier. The fence was demolished and the shrubbery cleared. This was then followed by the establishment of impressive and welcoming entrances. The insides of the park underwent some serious renovation that saw numerous sitting places, tables and cafes installed (Halle, 2003). This was done by the parks support group called the Parks council. The council brought new life to the park, and their effort continued in the succeeding years. Groups like the Bryant parks restoration Council came in to help improve on the condition of the park. The Bryant ark restoration council later opened up the park to the street and encouraged different activities to take part in the park Landscape architectural advisor Laurie Olin also played a major role in helping rehabilitate the park. This person brought in the idea of adding more seats in the park, increasing the access points, lawns and flower beds, expanding the library`s central book stack underneath the Great awn and more so - the restoration of the Bryant statue and the fountains. Wrangles arose amongst the people about the ownership of the park and if Bryant Park could accommodate all the activities and in addition serve as a place of leisure. The park design was maintained, but the park underwent some petitioning that suited it as a whole. Different activities were located at different places (Carr, 1993). The ren ovation of the park made it enjoy bumper harvest in terms of economic success. Bryant Park today is one of the signature places in New York City. With limited cases of crime, the park is for the workers on sunny weekdays, visitors overflow during the weekend and revel also come to spend their time in the park during the holidays. The park records a large number of people that spend their time in the park daily. The social amenities found in the park have become popular to people thus promoting the businesses that are carried on in the park. District co-operates help run the park, and this means that it has become attractive to white collar job oriented people. The park has launched a free wireless network, and this has made it one of the best parks in the world at the moment. The lawn in the park provides excellent scenery to people enjoying themselves there. The lawn offers tall grass in the Manhattan south of the central park. It serves as launch room for midtown office staffs, as a resting place for the tired pedestrians, and as sitting place for some of the parks events like film festivals and fashion shows. This helps generate a lot of funds that help in the daily running of the park. Various events are carried out on the Great Lawn found in this park. There are many film festivals that are shown on different occasions like in the Monday evenings. Various artists conduct their performances with the aim of generating funds for the park. This has indeed become one of the best sources of revenue

Diabetes and Obesity (Biology) Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Diabetes and Obesity (Biology) - Assignment Example It occurs as a result of absolute insulin deficiency insulin, due to rampant destruction of cells producing insulin, the beta cells of pancreas. There is a strong genetic predisposition to this type of diabetes. On the other hand type-2 diabetes mainly occurs in late adulthood and the main predisposing factors are lifestyle factors and obesity. Lifestyle factors in this regard include sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eatimg habits like irregular meals, binge eating and fast foods. Even in this type of diabetes genetic factors play a role. The main cause for diabetes type-2 are a combination of decreased secretion of insulin from the beta cells and also increased resistance of the receptors of the insulin in the peripheral tissue (Votey, 2005), which means that whatever insulin is secreted is not effective. The most common form of diabetes is type-2 diabetes and it has significant relevance to obesity. Thus, diet and exercise play a major role in prevention and also treatment of the disease. In this article, the role of obesity in the development of diabetes will be discussed. The main defect in diabetes type-2 is the inability of the tissues to respond to insulin. There is also decreased production of insulin by pancreas. Both these amount to increased glucose levels in the blood, known as hyperglycemia. An important causative factor is obesity. This is more so when obesity is more around the waist, known as central obesity (Votey, 2005). Obesity leads to decreased resistance of tissues to insulin. The fatty acid and triglyceride levels are high and these further interfere with insulin signaling. Another important aspect in obesity which influences the development of diabetes is dysregulation of the secretion of adipokine which is a hormone that causes peripheral resistance to insulin and contributes to the development of diabetes. Thus, obesity has a major role to play in the development of the most common form of diabetes, type-2 diabetes. Figure.1: Causes o f diabetes type-2 (Source: www.diabeticretinopathy.org.uk) Diabetes is a silent killer and can lead to both acute and chronic problems that are potentially fatal or debilitating. Acute problems include, unconsciousness and coma either due to high or low blood glucose levels, confusion, anxiety and tremors. Chronic problems include development of retinal problems, grouped under retinopathy, kidney problems, known as nephropathy and problems related to nerves, known as neuropathy. Other than these long term problems, diabetes also leads to cardiac problems (Votey, 2008). Infact, any organ in the body can be damaged by diabetes. That is why it is very important to prevent diabetes and also keep it in control when contracted by this disease. The main aim of treatment of the disease are prevention of complications (DOH, 2008). This can be done by receiving appropriate medical care a physician-coordinated team which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physicianââ¬â¢s assistants, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and mental health professionals with expertise and a special interest in diabetes. The most important aspect of prevention and also management of diabetes is lifestyle modification. This includes active physical life through exercise and physical activity, cutting down on excessive eating, following health eating habits like balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables and regular meals, cutting down on excessive alcohol indulgence and avoiding stress (DOH, 2008). Regular exercise is essential
