10 Tips for Getting Rid of Fruit Flies
Fruit flies are one of the most persistent kitchen pests. These tiny winged marauders procreate quickly and stick around long after youve tossed the fruits and veggies that first attracted them. If youre at your wits end with these nuisances, dont despair. Getting rid of them requires patience and smarts but these tips will help you eliminate any potential fruit fly breeding grounds in your home so youll be able to make them go awayââ¬âand keep them from coming back. 1. Dispose of Any Rotting Fruits and Vegetables First things first: The minute you see even a few fruit flies, its time to purge your unrefrigerated produce. Anything thats beyond ripe, oozing liquid, or has been cut or broken open must go. Dont just throw things in the garbage or compost bin, eitherââ¬âunless your compost bin is outdoors and located a distance from your house. Bag everything up and take it outside to the trash. And be sure to clean up any residual mess left behind on countertops or in containers. 2. Scrub Your Recycling Cans Anything thats sweet or fermented or has a little moisture is a suitable habitat for fruit flies. Empty soda cans, wine bottles, and beer cans completely and rinse them out. After youve taken all bottles and cans out for pickup, give the bin a thorough scrubbing to remove any beer, wine, or juice residue. 3. Take Any Compost Scraps Outside If you compost kitchen scraps and find you have fruit flies buzzing about, its time to clean out the compost bin. Until you get the infestation under control, youll need to take produce scraps directly to your outdoor compost pile. Empty any indoor compost containers and give them a good scrubbing, too. 4. Replace Old Sponges, Mops, and Dishrags Did you know that fruit flies can breed on sour sponges, mops, and dishrags? If you havent changed your kitchen sponge or your mop refill recently, replace them. Throw any reusable dishrags in the wash and put disposable ones in a sealed bag. 5. Clean Your Dishes Immediately Dont wait until the end of the day to wash your dishes, especially if they have residue from things like jelly or wine. At the very least, give the dishes a good rinse to remove any food or beverage remnants. When you scrape leftovers into the garbage, be sure to take the trash outside promptly. If you have a dishwasher, rinse food particles from your dishes and run the load as soon as you can. 6. Check Potato and Onion Storage Bins Most people store potatoes, onions, and other root vegetables in a cool, dark bin or cupboard. If fruit flies persist, be sure to check these storage areas for old, rotting produce. Just one old potato is all it takes to keep a fruit fly population going. Dispose of any soft or mushy potatoes or onions, and give the bin a cleaning before putting in fresh ones. 7. Set Vinegar Traps in Problem Areas Sometimes the quickest way to eliminate a population of insect pests is to wipe out the reproductive adults. Fortunately, fruit flies arent all that smart. If something smells remotely like fermenting fruit, theyll dive right in. Place a few cider vinegar traps around problem areas in your home, and you can quickly get rid of large numbers of fruit flies. You can make a vinegar trap in just a few minutes with things you probably already have in your home. 8. Fix Slow Drains and Keep Plumbing Clean Fruit flies arent above living in the muck, and that includes the muck inside your plumbing. If you have any slow-moving drains in your house, there may be enough organic matter hanging out inside your pipes to support a breeding population of fruit flies. Tape some plastic wrap over suspect drains for a few days to check for fruit flies. If you see adults on the underside of the plastic, theyre breeding in your drain. Fix any drainage issues. Pour boiling water down problem drains to help loosen accumulated deposits. If accessible, you can also use a firm brush to scrub the inside of the pipe to free it of debris. 9. Give the Kitchen a Thorough Cleaning Youd be surprised where food bits can accumulate in a kitchen. If you have a particularly stubborn fruit fly infestation, it may take some elbow grease to eliminate all of their food sources. Check the lip of your kitchen sink. There could there be food bits underneath it. Clean the burner drip pans and lift the stovetop, if possible, to remove spilled food, and check under the refrigerator for sticky spots where juice may have spilled. 10. When Canning, Make Sure Jars are Sealed Securely Not everyone is into home canning but if you are, you should know that a fruit fly infestation can sometimes be traced to even one improperly sealed jar of fruit preserves. If you keep a supply of homemade jellies or sauces on hand, take some time to doublecheck that all the seals are closed tightly. As much as a fruitfly would take delight in supping on something youd inadvertently left open, you wouldnt want to dine on anything that came from an improperly sealed jar anyway, right?

Body Image Dissatisfaction Through Instagram - 1921 Words
Body Image Dissatisfaction through Instagram In this literature review, I investigate existing scholarly writing in the areas of Instagram, Social comparison theory through the media, and low self-esteem due to body images on social media. Scholarship in each of these areas provides the groundwork necessary for me to conduct my own research in which I ask the question, ââ¬Å"What are the social comparisons of Instagram and low self-esteem of body image pertaining to young girls?â⬠Instagram I reviewed three scholarly articles on Instagram that were analyzed differently. Revolutionary soldier free essay sample
Whether I admit it or not, I take a lot for granted. I think we all do. In the book, A Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier, Some of the adventures, dangers, and sufferings of Joseph Plumb Martin, by Joseph Plumb Martin. He tells the War from his perspective as an engineer for the Connecticut regiment. In this book he describes many hardships and rough conditions he experienced first hand during the American Revolution or the (Revolutionary war). The Everyday life of the enlisted men was complex and hard to predict. The soldiers referred to the conditions as sufferings. I say we take things for granted because reading this book opened my eyes to a lot of things. As I sat at home in my big comfy bed, with the the whole house heated to a mild 70 degrees, and full belly of chicken tenders, I thought to myself, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve got it good compared to him. We will write a custom essay sample on Revolutionary soldier or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â⬠Times have definitely changed and I have much respect for the soldiers such as Joseph Plumb Martin. Although he didnââ¬â¢t necessarily want to be a soldier, itââ¬â¢s great what he did for us. ââ¬Å" Time passed smoothly on with me till the year 1774 arrived, the smell of war began to be pretty strong, but I was determined to have no hand in it, happen when it might? I felt myself to be a real cowardâ⬠(1) Clearly he felt bad of this. As it went on Matin proceeded to talk about the Valley Forge, Joseph said this, ââ¬Å" The army continued at and near the Gulf for some days, after which we marched for the Valley Forge in order to take up our winterà quarters. We were now in a truly forlorn condition, no clothing, no provisions, and as disheartened as need be, Our prospect was indeed dreary. In our miserable condition, to go into the wild woods and build us habitations to stay in, in such a weak, starved, and naked condition, was appalling in the highest degree â⬠. (2) This made me feel for him and paint a mental image of what that must of been like. The sufferings were unreal. Just the beginning 3 Joseph began his service in the Continental army in 1776. The same year the Continental congress signed the declaration of independence. Itââ¬â¢s amazing to think that so long ago (238 years to be exact), the u. s wasnââ¬â¢t even formed yet. This makes me want to thank all the men of the continental Army who rebelled against the british and fought for what you and I call home today. I believe Joseph wrote this narrative not to inform you on the revolutionary war, but to focus on what a real soldier experienced. He starts the first chapter off by saying, ââ¬Å"The heroes of all Histories, Narratives, Adventures, Novels and Romances. (3) War has always been and always will be romanticizing. Young men enlisted with the notion of becoming a brave war hero, and if lucky enough returning proudly home with a ââ¬Å"red badge of courage. â⬠The soldiers were persuaded at the time.

Eisntein and Religion essays
Eisntein and Religion essays Thinking about religion can often be a complex task. The same can be said about science. I think that in his Ideas and Opinions Albert Einstein does both effectively. After reading the selections on religion I was delighted to find someone who thought of religion in terms of logic. I also enjoyed Einsteins use of rational thinking to interpret the facts about religion. My interpretation of Einsteins views on religion is that he was correct in his thinking. I agree wholeheartedly with the majority of his opinions and ideas about religion. After reading the selections on religion I also felt that Einstein had not only given his opinion but had also said some profound truths about religion and science. The first idea that enlightened me from this section of Einstein was the idea that the primitive form of religion was bred of fear, Fear that evokes religious notions (Einstein 36). I think that many times when religion is discussed, it is always discussed with the preconceived notions of the time and is rarely examined from its roots in history. Leave it to a scientist to look at religion rationally instead of emotionally. This examination of religion appeals to me most. I agree with his examination of the different types of religious feeling, from fear to moral, and then on to the cosmic. It is this cosmic or the undefined feeling that I find to be most eloquently expressed. He takes an abstract thought and places it into a logical and rational station. This is amazing. Mostly because I can see his thought patterns and understand how he came up with his great theories that were so abstract and had the genius to put them into rational terms. I personally feel a great deal of thought is lost because it is not put in terms that are rational enough, a common occurrence in intellectual thought. The next idea of Einsteins that I found thought provoking was his assertion that S ...

Cloud Computing and Security Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Cloud Computing and Security - Term Paper Example On the other hand, when more critical information of corporations and individuals is stored on corporate cloud framework, fears are starting to elevate regarding just how protected an arrangement it could be considered. In addition, storing a large amount of data creates a circumstance similar to keeping massive funds, which means drawing additional normal attacks from increasingly experienced and extremely provoked invaders in computing environment. Accordingly, communication security is a particular concern which users contemplate when thinking about using cloud computing structure (Binning), (Hanna) and (Marston, Li and Bandyopadhyay). This paper will discuss the security issues in cloud computing enveironment. Security Risk and Cloud Computing While building safe and protected IT systems, organizations typically have to face a lot of customary security and privacy management issues and challenges on the other hand in case of cloud computing there is an additional extent of menace dues to the fact that in cloud computing environment necessary services are frequently subcontracted to a 3rd party security management. In this scenario, the ââ¬Å"external existenceâ⬠feature of subcontracting or outsourcing enables the tough hold up to data integrity, privacy, maintain data and service accessibility, and exhibits conformity. In addition, cloud computing transfers a great deal of the operational and security management control over data and business functions from customer business to their cloud service suppliers. In this scenario, a great deal of similar businesses hand over some part of their information technology working aspects and processes to outsourcing businesses. However, the fundamental jobs like that implementing patch technologies and installation and configuration of system firewalls are included in the responsibilities of the cloud service supplier, not the end-user of cloud services. In addition, users should build strong interactions with their contributors and stakeholders as well as recognize threats regarding how these cloud service suppliers apply, organize and administer security on their own. In this scenario, the idea ââ¬Å"trustâ⬠describes the association between cloud service suppliers and users and it is important for the reason that the client users are accountable for conformity and safety of their important business and financial data, yet if that particular burden has transferred to the cloud. Moreover, a number of businesses select mixed or private paradigms over open clouds due to the threats linked with the process of services subcontracting (IBM), (Shen and Tong) and (Sumter).
